SOUK and the LDA

In its role as the voice of sports officiating in the UK, SOUK is one of the Steering Committee members of the Diversity of Officials project at the London Development Agency. The LDA wishes to use the Olympic Games 2012 as a catalyst for developing sports officials particularly from those groups at present under-represented in officiating. Coachwise Education Ltd has worked with NGBs to map their Officials training to the National Occupational Standards, and Continuum Leisure has been appointed to manage the bursary scheme.  For more details, see the website at www.officialsports.org or e-mail bursary@continuumleisure.co.uk. SOUK and the YST

SOUK is also supporting the Youth Sport Trust who are developing a Young Officials scheme; initially this will aim at the sports included in the UK School Games, and these sports all have a young officials training co-ordinator attached to the NGBs.  This project is now entering its second year, and young officials are now being trained.
